Food...Yummmm!
|
|
Food touring as an
extension of a painting program? Actually, it makes perfect
sense. As artists we are focused on our most basic senses,
sight and touch. Now just add taste and smell, and of
course you want the food to look good too! Combine that with
being surrounded here in Buonconvento by some of the best that Italy has
to offer in the culinary area and you can see the
connection.
|
|
Etruscan Places is now offering a
Tuscan Cooking Course for the non-painter companions attending
certain of our painting workshops. See Calendar
page for specific dates.
|
|
Our one week Tuscan Food Tour and Cooking Workshop
has been very successful. We only do one food tour a season,
but it's the BEST season. We will
be displaying this years wine list on the site below, have a
look. Buon Appetito!

| "What induces
you, oh man, to depart from your home in town, to leave parents and
friends, and go to the country-side over mountains and valleys, if
it is not the beauty of the world of nature which, on considering,
you can only enjoy through the sense of sight; and as the poet in
this also wants to compete with the painter, why do you not take the
poet's descriptions of such landscapes and stay at home without
exposing yourself to the excessive heat of the sun? Would that
not be more expedient and less fatiguing, since you could stay in a
cool place without moving about and exposing yourself to
illness? But your soul could not enjoy the pleasures that come
to it through the eyes, the windows of its habitation, it could not
receive the reflections of bright places, it could not see the many
flowers which with their various colours compose harmonies for the
eye, nor all the other things which may present themselves to the
eye."
Leonardo da Vinci, The 'Paragone'

Italy is where the practice of painting
outside as a regular part of artistic training began. The landscape of Tuscany has inspired generations of travelers and artists.
Etruscan Places is focused on the art of open air or plein air or outdoor landscape
painting. We work outside during the art workshops, on location, under the Tuscan
sun or clouds, and have all the equipment necessary for the task.
Our instructors at the art workshop are
artists and landscape painters, who
possess a depth of experience, education, and
knowledge of art history and art making. This distinguishes them and makes for
outstanding painting workshops. The level of professionalism of the art
programs has routinely drawn praise from participants who have taken these art
workshops. The painting workshops are located
on beautiful farms which offer guests the
chance to experience genuine Italian country
living in Tuscany. Spend your painting vacation with us in Tuscany, near
Siena, Buonconvento and Florence. Or you can join us in Lazio north of
Rome at Civita Castellana
